Unexpected growth of GMR multilayers: 〈111〉 in-plane texture and grain bundling in 5 nm Fe/(Co/Cu)24
Sputtered Co/Cu multilayers were investigated by X-ray diffractometry and TEM. We confirm a 〈111〉 texture perpendicular to the surface for layers grown with the no Fe buffer. Layers with Fe showed no texture in X-ray, but an uncommon 〈111〉 texture parallel to the surface using TEM. Additionally, nei...

Summary: | Sputtered Co/Cu multilayers were investigated by X-ray diffractometry and TEM. We confirm a 〈111〉 texture perpendicular to the surface for layers grown with the no Fe buffer. Layers with Fe showed no texture in X-ray, but an uncommon 〈111〉 texture parallel to the surface using TEM. Additionally, neighbouring grains build bundles of similar orientation. These structural differences are related to the magnetic properties. |
