Aromatic character of the cyclopentadienyl moiety embedded in various chemical environments: a statistical treatment of the structural data

Summary: | From structural data for 4079 derivatives of cyclopentadienyl and cyclopentadiene bound to all elements from lithium to thallium except carbon, the relation between the aromatic character of the ring and the nature of the element bound to it has been analyzed. Aromaticity of the ring is associated with short interatomic distances between an atom of the element in question and carbon atoms of the ring and with the small variance of these quantities. High aromatic character is commonly observed for rings in compounds with transition metals and s-block elements of groups I and II of the Periodic Table. |
