Summary: | This work is focused on designing and developing a bobbin tool for Friction stir welding (FSW) of aluminium alloys. A 20 mm shoulder diameter was considered for the FSW tool on both sides of the tool probe, which has a cylindrical shape of 6 mm length and 6 mm diameter tooltip. The tool was made of high carbon high chromium steel. The tool probe was obtained by turning operation on the lathe machine. Supporting dies are made up of mild steel and are designed to hold the workpiece and provide enough clearance to travel the bobbin tool along with the welding. The fabricated bobbin tool was used to prepare weld joints of AA6063 through Bobbin tool FSW by varying tool rotational speed and feed rate as FSW parameters. The welded joints were subjected to find the Tensile strength and microhardness of the joints, and further investigation on material properties is done and observed for validation. The weld joints with bobbin tool friction stir welding (BTFSW) exhibiting better properties on the FSW joints. |
