•A novel mixed-valence octanuclear metallosupramolecule.•Rhenacycle incorporating rhenium +1 and +7 sates as fac-ReI(CO)3 and perrhenate anion ReVIIO4−.•Host–guest interaction of metallosupramolecule and organic guest molecules.•Fluorometric chemical studies of poly hydrocarbon (PHC), biologically relevant molecules amino acid (glycine) and large biomolecules like adenosine triphosphate, ATP at ppm level.
A novel coordination-driven neutral octanuclear rhenium tricarbonyl metallosupramolecule [{(CO)3Re(µ-O)4(ReO2)2Re(CO)3(pz)}2] (SD3), (where pz = pyrazine) rectangle integrating perrhenate ion within its core structure was synthesized. An in situ perrhenate ion generation was observed suggesting the superoxidation of Re(I) to Re(VII). The metallorectangle SD3 was characterized by IR, NMR, and Mass spectroscopies. The structure was established by Single Crystal X-ray diffraction and was found to be triclinic P-1. The thermal stability of SD3 was studied using Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). UV–Vis and Fluorescence spectrophotometries were used to study the photophysical properties and chemical sensing potential of SD3 for biomolecules, hazardous polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and aromatic molecules. |
