Description
Summary:This paper proposes a scheme that can adapt to topology changes quickly and reduce power consumption when nodes move in RPL-based IoT environments. We define Mobility Level (ML) for a node in an RPL network to estimate how much the neighbor nodes move. The node adjusts the interval of control messages it sends based on the ML value. This allows all nodes to keep the path to the sink more up-to-date and to reduce power consumption. We evaluate our proposed scheme in terms of power consumption and packet delivery ratio. The evaluation result shows that our scheme can improve power consumption by 70.3% while maintaining a similar packet delivery ratio as the existing method.
