Summary:The importance of container transportation is constantly increasing. For this reason, lower cost transportation is of great importance for companies in transportation by air, land, rail and sea in domestic and international markets. One way of reducing the costs is to utilize the container volume effectively. In this study, a block-building based GRASP method is proposed for solving the container loading problem. The results are compared with other GRASP methods and other heuristic or meta-heuristic algorithms in the literature. The results show improvements in comparison to the other methods.
