Abstract | The concept of energy storage is undergoing an important transformation because of the continuing sustainable energy revolution, with battery technology emerging as a leading industry. Battery functional temperature in an electric vehicle has a significant impact on how well it performs, along with a few other factors. Additionally, the performance of lithium-ion batteries is constrained by internal heat generation. The battery thermal management system (BTMS) is used to ensure the safety and efficient performance of the battery. Various cooling strategies such as air, liquid, heat pipe, thermoelectric, and phase change materials cooling are used individually or in combinations for effective heat dissipation in BTMS. The improved performance and longevity of many applications depend critically on the effective management of battery thermal conditions. The paper examines different battery cooling methods applied in thermal management with special emphasis on the techno-economic aspects of different techniques to determine the benefits, drawbacks, and cost-effectiveness. This review also underscores the significance of selecting an appropriate cooling technique based on specific battery applications and economic considerations. By comprehensively evaluating these strategies, stakeholders can make informed decisions regarding battery thermal management, optimizing performance, durability, and cost efficiency.
