Summary:The process of teaching the history of Azerbaijan in secondary schools is based on the need to form a harmoniously developed personality, its socialization, based on knowledge of its origins, traditions, the entire totality of national and spiritual values, through the formation of deep and comprehensive knowledge, skills and habits, high intelligence, broad outlook and the desire to develop it further. It serves to educate a patriotic person who deeply owns knowledge about his past, loves his family, homeland, people and always strives to raise him, educating a citizen in the spirit of freedom and democracy. A modern school, in the sense of modernization and renewal of education, should prepare a real citizen for life, educate a person who is able to prove himself as a successful specialist, family man, and creative person. The presence of such an area of knowledge as historical science makes it possible to form a competent person in this area. Such knowledge includes the assimilation of information about the political line pursued in the country, the position of Azerbaijan in the world, the factors determining the overall development of the country, the attitude towards socio-political and cultural events in a modern democratic society is formed, the skills of assessing what is happening and its forecasting are formed.
