Summary:This is a well-written book. Dr Pratt's writing style is both lucid and interesting. He has organized his material into coherent sections according to one of two methods. For example, in some chapters, chemotherapeutic agents are grouped according to their mechanisms of action. This organization, by mode of action, has also been followed for bactericidal and bacteriostatic inhibitors of protein synthesis, respectively, and the antimetabolites, as well as antibiotics that affect membrane permeability. Other agents are grouped by usage, eg, in the chapter entitled "The Urinary Tract Antiseptics." These two types of organization have been skillfully employed to give the book coherence and well-ordered structure.The book contains exceptionally clear explanations of the subcellular biochemical mechanisms of action and the sites of action of chemotherapeutic agents.
