Silurian turbidite provenance and the closure of Iapetus

Petrological and geochemical data (major, trace and REE analyses) are presented for the sandstones and tuffs of the Upper Llandovery to Lower Wenlock Lettergesh formation of SW Ireland and used to support a coeval arc origin for the detritus in these sediments, implying active oceanic subduction in the Silurian.
