Description
Summary:This annotated bibliography provides a comprehensive guide to over 600 books and articles on teaching, learning, curriculum, and faculty development in colleges and universities. References are divided into the following sections and subsections and are alphabetized by author: overview of four literatures: teaching, learning, curriculum, faculty development (higher education as a field, publication patterns, master key resources, keeping current); teaching and teaching effectiveness (guidelines, personal accounts, planning and providing instruction, evaluating and improving instruction, research on instruction); learners and the learning process (learners and their development, learning processes, evaluation); college and university curricula: traditions, tensions and directions (history and philosophy, innovative curricula, evaluating curricula and programs); faculty and staff development: goals, trends and approaches (general resources, career development, development as teachers and individuals, organizational development); periodicals and reference tools (periodicals, indexes, databases, bibliographies); and key trends and issues for research and practice (diversity and fragmentation, networks and organizations, graduate training, topics and methods for future research, and the double-edged conservatism of higher education). About 10% of the entries are marked by stars, indicating that they are considered seminal contributions to the literature. Name and subject indexes are provided. (KM)
