We are grateful to Dr Chaney for bringing attention to one of the major limitations of pulse oximetry—that it does not provide information on the adequacy of ventilation.Dr Coté also brings up several interesting and relevant points concerning the use of pulse oximetry. We thank him for noting several references that contribute to the overall understanding of pulse oximetry in the pediatric population. We agree that no technique should serve as a substitute for sound clinical judgment. |
