Summary: | 3D printed metamaterials are a human-designed class of material capable of providing uncommon properties unseen in nature. The power of freedom of design provided by additive manufacturing in metamaterials is useless if robust and efficient modelling tools are not available. The objective of this work is to validate and study the different options for finite element simulation of metamaterials to provide the best solutions in terms of mechanical precision and computational efficiency. We propose a new hybrid material agnostic modelling method to compute the mechanical response of metamaterial with the same precision than time-consuming detailed meshed simulations but with the time efficiency of simple beams models. |
