Quadrupole doublet inequality in granular Mössbauer absorbers, produced by elongated or flat crystals

Description
Summary:In spectra of randomly oriented granular (powder) Mössbauer absorbers, quadrupole doublets can be unequal in amplitude when the granules are shaped like rods or flat plates, and polarization is present. If the granules are assumed to be points, theory predicts that doublet equality will be observed if the granules are randomly oriented in absorption spectra. However, if the granules are not spherical and are too large to be considered as points and the absorber crystals are polarized, doublet inequality can be produced even with random orientation. The inequality is also dependent on the intensity of the electronic absorption.
