Description
Summary:P. tritici-repentis, the causal organism of tan spot, is an important foliar pathogen of wheat in Czech Republic and Poland. The fungal population occurs as multiple races based on their ability to induce chlorotic (chl+) and necrotic (nec+) lesions on wheat differentials. The P. tritici-repentis population race structure from Czech Republic and Poland has not yet been published. Fifty-one P. tritici-repentis single-spore isolates, recovered from diseased leaves of wheat, triticale, and non-cereal grasses were race typed. Of 51 isolates tested. 33 were race 1; three were race 2; nine were race 3; and six were race 4. The results indicate that the fungal population prevalent in the two countries is comprised of multiple races and is similar to the races that occur in other regions of the world. Wheat germplasm should be screened with races 1, 2, and 3 for breeding for tan spot resistance in the region.
