Description
Summary:In the present paper, the experimental results for the high voltage accelerating tube of the relativistic gridded klystron under development in the Branch of INP (Protvino, Russia) are presented. The tube is 205 mm in diameter with 16 alumina ceramics gaps, operated under a DC voltage (the design DC voltage value up to 1200 kV). The paper also outlines the experimental test facility and the measurement techniques applied. The experimental test results are presented for each accelerating tube gap separately, and for the tube as a whole. Besides, high voltage breakdown strengths for different electrodes inside the tube (in vacuum) and the related data are experimentally studied. The experimentally established maximum electrical strength values on the stainless and OF copper electrode surfaces are given. The effect of the operating oxide cathode unit on the high voltage breakdown strength value is considered.
