Summary: | The exponential growth and demand in semiconductor industry leading to increasing in complexity of the design. One such complexity is designing a chip with high speed and minimum area and to achieve its timing closure is being very difficult. Static timing analysis (STA) is one of the important stages in System on Chip (SoC) design. An SoC flat session will be accessed by each block designers and in the existing technology all the block designers will request for an SoC flat STA session to get timing reports. The process is very intensive in terms memory and time used to load. A virtual primetime tool with the objective of achieving a shared STA session with multiple users is proposed. It is developed using socket programming with the help of Tool Command Language (TCL) scripting. All primetime sessions are loaded in the background and multiple users access session the virtually and subsequently launch commands and get the timing reports. The commands are executed sequentially and therefore users are restricted to only lightweight commands with less run time. These commands do not impact other users who are accessing the system. The sockets system can transfer 100MB data within 10 seconds. A database is maintained to store information such as host name and port address of all the primetime sessions which is used by users to connect to respective sessions. Connection time of users to STA session is scaled down from hours to few seconds. |
