Description
Summary:The functions of nursing are based on scientific, humanistic and ethical processes which are in turn based on the respect to human life and dignity. An observational descriptive and cross sectional study on Health Systems and Services was carried out during the period from September 2008 to September 2009. The studied unit was the Internal Medicine Service of the Arnaldo Milian Castro Provincial University Hospital, which is formed by three wards. The objectives of the study were: determining the fulfillment of the nursing functions at the Internal Medicine Service, devising a system of actions aimed at facilitating the implementation of the nursing functions, and assessing, by mean of the experts' opinion, the system of actions proposed. The instruments used in the collection of data were the observation guide and the surveys. The existence of failures to comply with the functions established in the Resolution 396 of 2008 was verified; and it was more manifested in the graduated nurse. A system of actions, assessed by the experts, was proposed in order to allow the fulfillment of these functions. It was recommended the carrying out of this type of study in the other services of the hospital, as well as the implementation of the system of actions in the Internal Medicine Service. It was also recommended to inform the results of the study to the Nursing Principal and Deputy Director of the hospital, so they can be conveniently taken into account and serve to stimulate other professionals, as well as students in general, to continue approaching this topic.
