Summary:In the article, a clinical example demonstrating problems of differential diagnosis of gender identity disorder is considered. The main examination and treatment principles currently used for patients seeking sex reassignment are described. The necessity of optimization of diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitation approaches is demonstrated. Inadvisability of simplification of the gender reassignment procedure which due to diagnostic errors can worsen a patient’s maladaptation is noted.
