Description
Summary:Self-medication is configured in a public health problem. The discovery of antibiotics was a major breakthrough in the fields of medicine and pharmacy, but its use irregular brought consequences to public health and impact on health policy in Brazil. To cope with the self-medication, ANVISA implemented through the RDC's, notably RDC20-2011, stricter rules for the dispensation of antimicrobials, while delegating to the pharmacist the role of health educator. Based on the aim of reflecting on the educational role of the pharmacist in spreading among the population of the rational use of antimicrobials in the light of RDC-20/2011 through the literature review, this discussion has proved relevant since left the latent need for a comprehensive health planning at the same time able to provide access to medicines and to provide qualified information about their use and associated risks. As a health professional in this important educational process lies the pharmacist implementing a practice focused on promoting quality of life and the conscious use of drugs. The study demonstrated that the educational role of the pharmacist in spreading among the population of the rational use of antimicrobials has its foundation in the collective commitment, strengthening of good practices in the pharmaceutical area, serving not only the legislation, but disseminating knowledge, enabling and interacting with users and other health professionals involved in the care process, contributing to the pharmacy is truly recognized as a health care setting.
