Summary: | A novel phenomenon of attraction between unequally sized like magnetic poles has been discovered experimentally, wherein the two magnets have different permeance coefficient (P c ) values. The attraction occurs only when a localized region of the low |P c | magnet reverses its polarity and forms an unlike-pole region with respect to the high |P c | magnet. The attraction of like-pole magnets is caused by the localized demagnetization (LD) and influenced by several factors such as geometry and alignment of magnets. In this paper, finite element analysis (FEA) simulation and verification of the experimental results are reported, along with the FEA simulation results for other unexperimented unequally sized magnet pairs with various geometries. The factors affecting the LD level based on the field/force map from FEA results are demonstrated. The FEA simulation results for various unequally sized like-poles have the potential to help in developing novel devices to be used in vast applications. |
