Summary: | This thesis investigates the knowledge and perspectives of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) held by university faculty and staff/ administration through the use of semi-structured interviews and qualitative analysis. Six participants from five departments across the university were recruited to provide their insight and opinion regarding autism spectrum disorder and which resources provided by the university might be most beneficial for students with ASD. The results of this thesis show that students with ASD may not meet faculty expectations, but regardless neurodiversity is primarily viewed positively amongst faculty and staff. Additional findings include social support methods being potentially more helpful for students with ASD, and a possible need for increased training and awareness initiatives for faculty. |
