Description
Summary:Household accidents involving children, such as bringing objects or chemicals to the mouth, are relatively common, and require constant vigilance from family members. When children have intellectual disabilities, the risks increase. Accidental ingestion of chemicals, such as personal hygiene products, may range from irritation to severe hypersensitivity reactions that require accurate diagnosis and proper management of the stomatologist. A case of a 13-year-old male with intellectual disability and under investigation of autism spectrum disorder who was admitted due to painful ulcers throughout the oral mucosa and oropharynx will be reported. Parents reported that the child was playing with a bottle of spray deodorant and accidentally fired a spray of the product into the mouth. The oral lesions were treated with daily applications of laser photobiomodulation until the wounds were repaired. The treatment allowed the child to maintain oral feeding during the treatment, with less discomfort.
