Description
Summary:The main of this paper is to realize the mapping of deforestation features caused by mining activities in the southwest region of the state of Pará, which is part of the Amazon Region. This goal was reached by employing satellite images of medium resolution, from the satellites Resourcesat-Ii, using the AWiFS sensor, and CBERS-4, WFI sensor. The results showed that 19% of the deforestation polygons caused by mining were situated in areas that did not have any registered requisition of research and/or exploitation concession given by the competent government organs, which might indicate that they were irregular. Therefore, the mapping executed in this paper contributes to the control and monitoring of mining activity in a region with great importance to environmental conservancy.
