Summary:This article highlights some of the findings of a small study that was conducted in the West Midlands between August and October 1995 to test midwives' views on the Changing Childbirth document (Department of Health, 1993). This article reports on midwives' responses to their perception of competency based on 1740 replies out of a total of 2638 midwives questioned.
