Summary:Umbilical vein catheterization (UVC) in newborns (NB) is frequently used as a vascular access. Due to its invasive characteristics, complications may occur, such as cardiac tamponade. The aim of this article is to report a case of pericardial effusion with “swimming heart” resulting from a newborn UVC and to propose preventive approaches to avoid UVC-related complications.
