Description
Summary:•The causes of vibration and noise from the permanent magnet motor were identified and verified.•The electromagnetic force of the motor was calculated using finite element analysis.•The surface vibration of the tub was predicted using harmonic response analysis.•The predicted tub vibration results were compared with the measurements. In this study, the causes of vibration and noise from the permanent magnet motor, which is one of the main sources of noise generated by a drum washing machine, were identified and verified by experimental measurements. In addition, the electromagnetic force of the motor was calculated using finite element analysis. The surface vibration of the tub was predicted using harmonic response analysis, and the prediction results were compared with the measurements to validate the finite element model and verify the electromagnetic force. Our study presents a process for predicting surface vibrations generated by a washing machine motor using finite element analysis.
