Summary:Established to promote greater public understanding of the United States Constitution, the National Constitution Center facility in Philadelphia is a structure of complex geometries articulated in limestone, granite, and glass. The design - conceived to reflect the enduring strength of the United States Constitution - relies on an elaborate frame of interconnected steel systems to achieve its bold structural form. The National Constitution Center facility was intended to be a state-of-the-art, interactive museum to explain and celebrate the ideals underlying the Constitution. To this end, the National Constitution Center's program requirements for the museum included the following: 1. a great transparent space, 2. a symbolic character as great as its functionality, 3. an urban feel at the Sixth Street side and a park feel at the Fifth Street side, 4. a design in keeping with the spirit of historic Philadelphia, 5. a visitor center and pubic facility, 6. exhibition space, and 7. National Park Service facilities.
