Description
Summary:A strain of Alternaria alternata (Fr) Keissler was repeatedly isolated from black spot lesions on leaves of Japanese pear cultivar Nijisseiki trees grown near Ravenna, Italy. Inoculation tests revealed that the isolates were pathogenic only for the Japanese pear cultivars which are known to be susceptible to the Japanese pear pathotype of A. alternata. HPLC analysis indicated that the fungus produces a relatively large amount of the host-selective AK-toxin-1 during conidial germination. This is the first report of the occurrence in Italy of the Japanese pear pathotype of A. alternata Un ceppo di Alternaria alternata (Fr) Keissler e stato ripetutamente isolato da foglie con maculatura nera di peri giapponesi (Pyrus serotina Redh. var. culta Redh.) cv.
