Description
Summary:Gastroenteritis caused by ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae and related risk factors are poorly documented in Sub-Saharan Africa and especially in children under five years of age. The carriage of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae in the study population was relatively high. This carriage was related to the consumption of borehole water and indicates groundwater contamination by antibiotics waste. This high rate of carriage should lead to implementing antibiotic surveillance and control policies. Wastewater should also be properly treated to avoid groundwater contamination.
