Summary:[...]no studies have yet been conducted to investigate transcutaneous absorption in children (ages 0-14 years). [...]the existing studies have measured and evaluated the iodine level only up to 24 hours after contact with PI. The study group included children with congenital heart disease who required cardiac surgery (open and closed heart surgery). In open-heart surgery, the heart and lung system stop their function in grand, their role is taken over by a Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB) machine which is gradually removed after the operation is completed and the patient's heart and lung function is recovered. The inclusion criteria were: ageunderl4, having a congenital heart disease requiring cardiac surgery, not having a thyroid problem, which was determined by asking the parents and the assessment of the thyroid screening conducted at birth, not having skin problems, as determined by routine examinations made by the physician in charge of their insurance, and having parental consent.
