Description
Summary:This training manual teaches library personnel how to use ALIS (the Automated Library Information System) at Kansas State University. The exercises use a program called TEST, which is completely separate from the actual system. The exercises, which are designed to imitate real-life situations, combine learning the ALIS operations with learning the library's circulation policies and procedures. Much of the instruction is self-directed, but trainers are available to answer questions. Small paper "books" used throughout the manual are photocopies of books the library owns, and the computer-read labels are the same as those used in all library materials. Each section ends with a sheet of directions that give step-by-step instructions for getting that section ready for the next trainee. The six-part manual covers: (1) Introduction to Hardware; (2) Discharge; (3) Media Types Identification; (4) Charging on ALIS; (5) Renewals; and (6) Inquiry. (THC)
