Corrosion of Cobalt-Molybdenum Alloys in Chloride Solutions

We study the protective properties of coatings made of Co–Mo alloy in 3% NaCl and 5% HCl aqueous solutions containing 0, 10, 25, 50, 75, and 85 wt.% Mo. The method of impedance spectroscopy is used to construct the equivalent circuit and determine its parameters. The accumulated results are used to...

Description
Summary:We study the protective properties of coatings made of Co–Mo alloy in 3% NaCl and 5% HCl aqueous solutions containing 0, 10, 25, 50, 75, and 85 wt.% Mo. The method of impedance spectroscopy is used to construct the equivalent circuit and determine its parameters. The accumulated results are used to make conclusions concerning the corrosion resistance of the alloy in chloride-containing media. We obtain the data on the elemental composition of the investigated coatings and study their surface morphologies. It is shown that the Co 7 Mo 6 compound is predominant in the Co–Mo alloy.
