Description
Summary:The purpose of the qualitative grounded theory study was to explore organizational, educational, and social science paradigms of the resiliency phenomenon. Analysis focused on discovering the data that could identify traits of resilience that support the creation of a seminal sustainable resiliency development theory that was functional across all fields of study. The sustainable resilience development theory (SRDT) contains eight major themes. Emergent themes were identified as perceived hardiness, decisiveness, visionary attitude, empathy, will to thrive, emotive strength, internal locus of control, and dedication. The degree to which each individual possessed each trait determined the length of time spent achieving the ability to overcome adversity. Outlying factors impacted the ability for individuals to sustain resilience. The ability to cope with adversity on a personal level impacted the organization; likewise organizational adversity impacted the individual ability to cope effectively with stress. More research will be required to further refine the SRDT however the implications for positive social change were evident throughout the investigation.
