Description
Summary:This study investigated the Scholastic reading intervention program READ 180 and the impact its implementation had on reading achievement and growth in sixth and seventh grade special education students. The purpose of this study was to determine if the READ 180 program had a more positive effect on student achievement and growth than the regular education supported language arts classroom. The treatment group was compared to the control group, which consisted of sixth and seventh grade special education students in the regular education supported language arts classroom. This study employed an ex post facto quasi-experimental design. The Illinois State Achievement Test (ISAT) Reading achievement scores and the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test scores were utilized to measure student achievement and growth. Results from the study indicate that the implementation of the READ 180 program did not have a statistically significant effect; therefore, the null hypotheses were retained.
