Description
Summary:The study aimed to demonstrate the phenotypical variability in natural populations of Acrocomia aculeate through morphometric and morphological data of fruits and color of epicarp and mesocarp, to support its economic use. In three populations in Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, 70 plants which presented contrast in size and color were sampled. From each palm, two infrutescences were collected, and from each cluster, 50 fruits (total of 100 per plant) were randomly sampled for measurement (cm) of polar length and equatorial width (diameter). Fruits were visually analyzed and photographed to determine the color of the epicarp, assorted in orange (17.1%), greenish (34.2%), yellowish (31.7%) and brownish (17.1%), and of the mesocarp in orange (30.0%), yellow (34.3%), white (10.0%), brown (17.1%) and pinkish (8.6%), with various tones for each color. The analyzed values showed difference of fruit size and shape. The mean value of equatorial width (2.77±0.03) presented coefficient of variance (CV) of 10.0%, with an amplitude of 1.94 to 3.30 cm; the mean value for polar length (2.83±0.05) showed a CV of 13.5% and an amplitude of 2.0 to 3.87 cm. From the obtained data, the phenotypical variation concerning the fruits of this species was shown.
