Summary:Adequate provisions for convalescent care are important to the community because they help to hasten the patient's return to maximum health and regain a normal amount of independence and gradually resume normal activity. A general understanding of both the social and medical aspects of medical care in convalescence is necessary in order to pro­mote the use of this medical service.According to present day standards, convalescent care consists of a planned program which should provide, under medical supervision, nursing care, diet, occupational therapy, physical therapy, rest, exercise, recreation, education, social service, and psychiatric help to meet the needs of the patient.
