Summary:•New mineral chemistry and isotopic data for the ultramafic SLMB Suite, which hosts an important vermiculite deposit.•The SLMBS rocks were affected by hydrothermalism, but detailed studies enabled the distinction of igneous rocks.•Two types of vermiculite with relatively distinct mineral chemistry have been recognized.•Vermiculite formed, mainly, by weathering, but the “vermiculization” process probably started at the hydrothermal process.•The SLMB Suite rocks emplacement may have occurred at the final kinematic stage of Brasilia Belt.
