Summary: | Spatio-temporal variations in the diversity and abundance of commercially important decapoda and stomatopoda in subtropical Hong Kong waters were investigated. Both univariate and multivariate analyses showed that western waters (WW) supported significantly higher abundance, biomass and diversity of crustaceans than eastern water (EW), although there were significantly higher abundance, biomass and diversity of crustaceans were recorded in summer than winter. Spatio-temporal variations could be explained by differences in the hydrography, environmental conditions and anthropogenic impacts. The results provided baseline information on the community structures of commercially important decapod and stomatopod species in Honk Kong waters. The results served as an essential reference data set for long-term monitoring and would allow proper evaluation of the effectiveness of the MPA establishment in relation to sustainable development of fisheries. |
