Summary: | Joint Russian-Finnish expeditions were organized in 1992 and 1993 to obtain water samples from Ladoga lake for chemical analysis by participants from both countries. Analytical methods were intercalibrated and the chemical quality of lake water at the time of the studies monitored. The intercalibration method used was capable of detecting only systematic errors. Random errors also seemed to be present in the data, possibly as a result of differences in methods. Both systematic and random errors seemed to be present in data for total nitrogen, iron and manganese. The Secchi depth ranged from 1.5 to 3.3 m. The total phosphorus concentration (15 to 29 ug per litre) indicated mesotrophic or even eutrophic conditions. |
