Summary: | The possibility of raising the wear resistance and prolonging the service of forging die inserts is analyzed with the aim to elevate the efficiency of the production process and to reduce the cost of forgings. Three sets of inserts fabricated from the same grade of die steel and subjected to the same heat treatment are studied. Additional nitriding (gas or ion plasma one) is applied to two sets for comparison. It is shown that the inserts subjected to ion nitriding have the highest wear resistance and endurance. |
