Besides interviewing children, she recorded daily, for eight successive days, what seven children from one particular elementary family told her about what they had done and experienced that day. [...]again using data from the 'Tagesschilderungen', she presents a systematic overview of the types of work performed by children, varying according to age and sex. In the first place, the Babads themselves seem to become more factual, which may justify the trouble of wringing them for facts, as De Graaf has done. [...]for the greater part of this period the Babads can be checked for factual accuracy against Dutch Company and other colonial sources.
