Description
Summary:During the last decade, the role of molecular epidemiology in tuberculosis research has become unquestionable. Methods such as the IS6110-based RFLP analysis, spoligotyping, and VNTR genotyping, as well as genomic deletion analysis and single nucleotide polymorphism analysis, are used for epidemiological and phylogenetic studies of Mycobacterium tuberculosis . The results of these methods are used to study the mechanisms of the origin and transmission of tuberculosis, as well as the resistance of M. tuberculosis strains to anti-tuberculosis drugs. This review considers the main molecular and genetic methods for studying tuberculosis epidemiology, as well as their prospective applications in the Russian Federation taking into consideration the epidemiological situation in the country and the available laboratory infrastructure.
