Description
Summary:The therapeutic management of the complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS I) depends on its severity, and should take place in an interdisciplinary setting. In addition to medical and psychological intervention, occupational therapy plays a major role in the care of patients. Following a case review and patient interview, an assessment of hand function is obtained using a quantitative determination of pain levels, oedema, and overall hand function, mobility and strength, and, subsequently, therapeutic goals are set. Based upon the severity of the clinical presentation, a patient-tailored course of occupational therapy is designed and implemented. The present article provides an overview of the possibilities for CRPS management by the occupational therapist.
