Summary: | This study focuses on implementation of a system to make users aware of the usage of IoT based applications and promote sustainable living, energy saving, and behaviour change. In this context, the usage of smart plugs in the electrical system's distribution side is gaining popularity. Electrical gadgets called smart plugs can link a regular appliance to the internet. Additionally, it enables users to keep tabs on their energy use and so modify it. The study found that compared to ordinary houses, households with the proposed system installed used energy roughly less than 5 %. Participants' energy usage dropped when they were happier with obtaining automated systems and the associated knowledge. Results show that this programme can help people consume less energy, which is good for smart homes and smart communities. In recent decades, energy and energy management have emerged as significant research subjects. Making people aware of their energy usage habits can help to cut down on energy use dramatically. Using IoT-based techniques and smart plugs to collect data that is sent to the central database via the wireless-gateway, we apply a smart and sustainable technology in this project. When not in use, the Smart plugs can be turned on and off from the main server thanks to the system's design. This capability has led to the creation of a mechanism to turn off the smart plugs after business hours. In addition, we thoroughly examined the reason behind the lack of demand for the existing home automation systems in the market and found that most people are not ready to switch to a new system just to enjoy one or two features. Hence, the proposed system is integrated with multiple features which would attract more users and help to expand the practical implementation. |
