Phosphate glass ion-exchange Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped waveguide amplifiers longitudinally pumped by broad area lasers

We show that Er 3+ /Yb 3+ co-doped waveguide amplifiers, based on ion-exchange technology on phosphate glasses, can be effectively pumped by high-power and low-cost broad-area lasers at 980 nm, providing over 3 dB/cm gain.
