Summary: | Swimming pool chemicals are added to the water in these venues to prevent transmission of infectious pathogens. These chemicals can cause injury when handled inappropriately or when operators fail to use appropriate personal protective equipment. Here, details regarding the 36 pool chemical-associated health events reported to the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) for public aquatic venues during 1983-2006 and includes analyses of 1998-2007 data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) and 2007 data from the National Poison Data System (NPDS) are reported. Among other things, a CDC editorial note is included. |
