Further notes on species richness, tropical forest dynamics and sampling: a reply to Phillips et al
In a previous note in this journal I raised several issues with respect to the use of permanent sample plots (PSPs) in evaluating how tree diversity relates to forest dynamics (Sheil 1996). I illustrated these concerns with reference to a published study (Phillips et al. 1994). Phillips et al. (1997...

Summary: | In a previous note in this journal I raised several issues with respect to the use of permanent sample plots (PSPs) in evaluating how tree diversity relates to forest dynamics (Sheil 1996). I illustrated these concerns with reference to a published study (Phillips et al. 1994). Phillips et al. (1997) have defended their position. Some of the points I made (Sheil 1996) appear misunderstood for which I accept some blame; however, a deeper level of disagreement is apparent. The issues require clarification. |
