Summary: | This dissertation measured emotional impact on middle schoolchildren (6th, 7th, and 8th grades) caused by parental/guardian military deployment. The research examines how well equipped the United States Military and community organizations are to address the issues experienced by child dependents. This researcher discovered a lack of comprehensive appropriate programs available to this group. This research also discovered relatively little empirical researcher done on this subject. Research indicated that there was significant emotional reaction/adjustment to the military induced significant need for additional services for child dependents by the United States military and community organizations. Chapter I addresses the impact of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on United States military dependents. Chapter II reviews appropriate literature that examined the home front effect on military dependents due to military induced separation of parent/guardian. Chapter III introduced the pre- and post-test instruments used to measure the effectiveness of the curriculum. This chapter also documents how subjects were selected for group process. Chapter IV documented the results of both group and individual subjects' emotional status according to the research instrument. The final chapter summarized how well equipped the United States Military is for caring for dependent children and provided recommendations to improve supportive services. |
