Description
Summary:The launch of the first stage of the Intense REsonance Neutron source installation (IREN) at the Laboratory of Neutron Physics, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, is reported. The general scheme and status of the linear electron accelerator with a traveling wave-accelerating structure in a 10-cm range ( f = 2856 MHz) are presented. The results of adjusting the basic functional systems of the accelerator and measured electron beam parameters are given: a beam current in a pulse of 1.5 A, an electron energy of 30 MeV, a current pulse duration of 100 ns, and a cycle rate of 25 Hz. The integral neutron flux from the nonmultiplying target reaches (3–5) × 10 10 neutrons/s.
